Position Paper No.4: Wild Card

One day you are asking permission to go to the restroom and the next you are expected to pick the next leader of the country. Some go from having parents making doctors’ appointments to being able to walk onto a college campus and accept thousands of dollars of loan. Your eighteenth birthday seems to signify a large breaking turning point from being a teenager into the complexity called adulthood. For many of us this may be our first or second time voting in a presidential election and although the voting process is already over I am exploring ways to go about getting educated and involved in the politics that affects everyday life not just for you, but for the future generations.                Being educated on politics is crucial, but it can also be very daunting or overwhelming at times. Take the learning process one step at a time, perhaps refer to some of the things you learned in civics in grade school. I personally watched...

Donald J. Trump was born June 14, 1946. He is married to his third wife Melania Trump and is also a father of five. Prior to Trump’s entry into politics he was known for being a billionaire businessman and television personality and award-winning author. In the summer of 2015, he announced his candidacy for the Presidency. Approximately a year later in 2016, Trump accepted the nomination from the Republican party for President of the United States. By the end of the same year Donald Trump became the 45th President of the United States. He is now running for a second term as president, again Democratic party candidate Joseph Biden.      The unfortunate murder of a teenage black male by the name of Trayvon Martin, incited the creation of the Black Lives Matter movement in 2013. The support and need for the movement have grown over the last few years, which is disheartening as well as encouraging. I chose the word disheartening because as the support and initiative grows it is in part because the murders and racist encounters and continuing to happen even today. In 2013, we mourned the death of Trayvon Martin and today in 2020 we are mourning the death of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and countless others. The movement was started by three strong black women by the names of Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors and Opal Tometi. Since the summer of 2013 they have watched the support and need for their movement grow. There have been countless murders against African Americans that have been brought to the forefront thanks to social media yet many of the killers are not being adequately punished...

Position Paper No.1: Political Pundits

In a world full of opinionated beings, we are getting information, true and untrue from everywhere. Social media has only exacerbated the rate at which everyone can put their opinions on the world wide web. For the eight months or so Americans have been encouraged to stay home, socially distance themselves, and maintain proper cleaning and sanitizing practices. While home Americans took to social media with apps such as the ever so popular TikTok, Instagram and Facebook as a means of entertainment and even serious news. In times of such tragedy, uncertainty and distance people have lots of time on their hands to spend scrolling through social media. I know that I cannot be the only one who has found great new influencers that I enjoy seeing on social media or in their respected fields. Before I introduce the political pundit that I will be analyzing we must find out exactly what it means to be a political pundit and what exactly they do. Merriam Webster defines a pundit as bei...
